Use of Oxidation Numbers for Predicting Regioselectivity in Organic Reactions
Absract. The oxidation number concept is usually used to determine the relative electron density around atom, to balance chemical reactions, or to decide whether the chemical formula assigned to a compound is valid or not. Although rules for calculating oxidation numbers in organic molecules are available, they are rarely used in organic chemistry. In fact, this concept can be modified. Thus, we proposed a new approach for predicting regioselectivity in simple organic reactions.

System of Quality Management for Biology Teachers Professional Training in Sofia University [In Bulgarian]
Absract. In the article is viewed an idea for decomposition of system of the quality managing in Sofia university elements for the purposes of biology teacher professional training. The idea is based on EFQM Excellence Model adapted for high education and interactions RADAR (Results, Approach, Deployment, Assessment and Review). Planning and managing processes connected with quality management are concretized in Deming cycle (Plan-Do-Check-Act) and in answering following questions: What? Why? Who? How? Where? When? Main research instruments are described in context of whole methodical idea. Results are analyzed and commented in the context of main research idea and prognosis.

The Topic Carbohydrates in the Educational Programs on Chemistry and Biology [In Bulgarian]
Absract. One of the main goals of the education in natural sciences is the formation of knowledge and abilities on an integrative basis. Therefore, the normative documents – state educational regulations and educational programs – have to be synchronized. The review of the educational programs on Chemistry and Environmental Protection, and Biology and Health Education reveals the lack of coordination of syllabus. This syllabus is needed for the studying of important carbohydrates which are objects of both of the subjects. This makes it difficult to develop in students stable knowledge and logic connections which are particularly useful in the studying of the substances’ functions in living organisms. In the present paper ideas are given for the realization of connections between the two subjects connected with the structure and physiological activity of carbohydrates.

Bilingual Course in Biotechnology: Interdisciplinary Method
Absract. The requirements for expected results from studying have been clearly defined in the European Qualification Framework (EQF) and National Qualification Framework (NQF). Communication skills, including communicating in English, are key requirement for all professions. Herein, we report the creation of a new model for bilingual education in the engineering sphere. This model is successfully applied in Biotechnology education. Our experiment reveals that interdisciplinary modules give students the opportunity to realize meanings and connections of relevant subjects and great number of perspectives.

Opinion Survey of Students for Learning Chemistry in School [In Bulgarian]
Absract. Chemistry education plays an essential role in scientific literacy among youngsters. 10th grade students` opinion about the preparation in chemistry at school and its role in the competence improvement has been investigated by the survey made. The research method is a questionnaire with the opinion of the students about initiating their work and self-assessment. The results` analysis reveals that the students consider themselves as scientific literate and they demonstrate desire to participate in various activities in class but they are not willing to take time aside for working alone.

Teaching and Learning Efficacy of Virtual Laboratory Package on Selected Nigerian Secondary School Physics Concepts
Absract. The study investigated the teaching and learning efficacy of virtual laboratory package on three Nigerian secondary school physics concepts. Three research questions were raised while two hypotheses were tested. The study adopted mix-method for analysis. A quasi-experimental procedure involving two levels of independent primary variable and one dependent variable was used while questionnaire was used to elicit responses of physics teachers who evaluated the Virtual Physics Laboratory Package (VPLP). Purposive sampling technique was employed to select 22 physics teachers and 60 physics students from Federal Government Colleges in Nigeria. Intact classes of secondary school class two physics students were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. VPLP, physics teachers’ evaluation questionnaire and physics achievement test were used as research instruments after have been determined to be valid and reliable for the study. Data gathered from the administration of research instruments were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and t-test statistic in SPSS 16.0 version. Findings revealed that physics teachers agreed that VPLP satisfies the objectives and procedures of learning simple pendulum, Hooke’s law and momentum experiments with average mean response of 2.85 out of 5, there was no significant difference between the mean achievement scores of students taught the selected physics concepts using virtual physics laboratory package and those taught using conventional laboratory instruction t (58) = 0.139, p > 0.05. The package was found adequate and effective in the teaching and learning of selected physics concepts. Hence it was recommended that physics students should endeavor to explore the opportunities offered by virtual physics laboratory package for revision purpose as well as for individualized learning of physics experiments.

The Chemical Experiment – Science and Amusement [In Bulgarian]
Absract. The laboratory chemical experiment derives a motivation for learning natural sciences to a great extent. The aim of this paper is to present a few attractive chemical experiments which could be demonstrated to a great variety of different age students. The selected experiments are not only an attraction but also a logical problem connected with a certain scientific task revealing the chemistry as a field of science. These experiments can be used during the seminars with students and teachers who would like to improve their skills.

Ecology in Bulgaria [In Bulgarian]
Absract. The emergence and development of scientific ecological thinking in the works of Bulgarian scientists is traced in the background of some global trends. Some periods in the Bulgarian history of ecology are outlined: ecology as a scientific approach to studying living nature, ecology as a theoretical and applied biological science, penetration of ecology into other branches of science, contemporary ecology disciplines in Bulgarian universities and global ecology. A short review is made of the philosophical interpretation of ecology as a world view and the difficulties in solving environmental problems.
