The "Istoriya - History" journal is among the most authoritative academic publications in the field of Bulgarian humanitarian studies. It aims to present in-depth research on the history of Central and Eastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean from Antiquity to the Present Day, to publish scientific developments in the methodology of history teaching and archival work. The published articles and materials are structured in separate rubrics and cover a variety of topics and problems that are object of discussion in the field of historical knowledge.

Authors of the journal are both established scientists from Bulgaria and abroad, as well as young researchers who present the results of their first scientific research.

Over the years of its more than half a century of publication, "Istoriya - History" established itself as a useful and authoritative academic journal. Its practical importance is closely related to the other spheres of science and education. Its present purpose is to focus the attention of authors and readers on the need for an adequate reconstruction of the historical past in the specified geographical region. The emphasis is on macro- and micro-history, on the dynamics and diversity of events and processes, on the search for new methodological and the improvement of classic approaches in research, on the publication of new interpretations.
