Absract. The book “Adornments and Grimaces. Fashion and Modernity in Bulgarian literature of the 1920s and 1930s” (2022) by Nadezhda Stoyanova takes fashion out of the periphery and establishes it as a significant topic for Bulgarian interwar literature. Highlighted as an alternative to the traumatic experience of
experiences of the 1920s and 1930s, fashion is conceived as an authentic expression of life – an expression of self-awareness and of the will to change the Self. The mirror of fashion reflects the various images of the modern man, in which the longing to anticipate the present and the desire to foresee the future can be recognized.
