Comparing Education and Career Aspirations, Expectations and Skills of Chemistry and Pharmacy Freshmen [In Bulgarian]
Резюме. This article presents a two-year study of non-cognitive input features of 210 freshmen in Chemistry and Pharmacy at Sofia University. The survey seeks information about: the students goals (aspirations), education and work; motives (reasons) for the selection of a university; expectations for higher education and self-assessment of academic-related skills. Comparing the responses from chemistry students with those of pharmacy students demonstrates differences in the following areas: the homogeneity of career goals; connections between career and educational goals with the labor market; types of motives; type and level of expectations, and self-assessment of personal skills. Interesting results were obtained when comparing the most developed skills, declared by chemistry freshmen with the most important career skills according to employed chemistry alumni (Gendjova & Kamusheva, 2012). The study enables future research on the subject and practical application.

Meteorite Hunting and Physics Education
Резюме. In the recent years meteorite hunting has turned to a well-known recreational
activity and has become popular among children and the youth. Being such a tempting area of practice, meteorite prospecting draws attention and brings
pleasure to the involved individuals thus predisposing them to get acquainted with the hidden secrets and underlying nature of meteorites and the methods and physical laws that make finding meteorites using machines possible. The current article tries to explain why meteorite hunting may attract students to physics and help them better understand certain phenomena of astrophysics and physics. The student may learn much about meteorite structure, chemistry, astrophysical origins, meteoroid entry into Earth atmosphere and its consequential mechanical dispersion, and finally and most importantly the physics of electromagnetism, on which are based the modern meteorite searching metal detectors.

Assessment of the Qualities of Teaching Experiments which Illustrate the Greenhouse Effect
Резюме. The contemporary state strategy for education in Bulgaria focuses natural science education on forming and developing individuals with strong understanding of ecology. In the context of educational strategy, the school subject Chemistry and Environment is taught from 7th to 12th grade. A review of the curriculum in the relevant textbooks indicates an absence of experimental activity related to the global environmental problems. A step in this direction is this paper which presents some of the selected and developed teaching experiments for illustration one of the global environmental problems – the intensification of the greenhouse effect on Earth. The qualities of the teaching experiments are examined through an expert assessment and in a representative sample of students in the 9th grade in experimental education conditions. For the purposes of the survey, two students’ groups are formed – control and experimental. They are chosen at random by two independent samples of students (40 in each group) with similar results incoming testing for ecological culture. The cognitive performances of students are established by outgoing testing for ecological culture. The data show that the developed teaching experiments provide good conditions to enrich students’ ecological culture and they can be used effectively in secondary school chemistry education.
